About the event

The mid-1800s were a time of excitement as gold was discovered.  Hundreds of thousands of people migrated to the West in search of gold, many to be disappointed.  The labor was hard, and the competition was fierce.  The Gold Rush was so large-scale and impactful that many historians consider it to be one of the most significant events for us in the 1800s.  Come learn about the history of prospecting gold and its evolution from members of the Pony Express Prospectors Association.  You’ll get a chance to see gold and learn how prospecting works now through a gold panning demonstration.
